Proposed launch of luncheon club
The Centre is celebrating the award of nearly £10,000 from the Lancaster City Council Take Pride Community Fund since this will now allow for the completion of a super, new kitchen adjacent to the main hall. This is the final stage in the programme for upgrading both the inside and outside of The Centre.
A full kitchen will provide all sorts of extra catering options at events and functions, and will also allow The Centre to launch a special luncheon club for older people – hopefully in April after the kitchen upgrades are finished. Centre Manager, Maureen Richardson, said:
” We are delighted that our years of fund raising, helped by many volunteers, to complete the kitchen refurbishment have been matched by this generous award. We are really looking forward to providing visitors to The Centre with an improved range of facilities and catering.”
In the meantime Norman Howarth at Abbeyfield at 78 Beech Road (just off the High Road) is planning to introduce a luncheon club through the period of January 2013 for anyone over the age of 55 who maybe living alone or would just like to join others in a good home cooked meal there.
The plan is to hold the luncheon club on every Wednesday at 12noon starting on January 2nd , costing just £3 per person. Anyone interested needs to phone to book their place on either tel: 01524 811910 or the Abbeyfield manager on 07805 848894.
