Launch of Luncheon Club
The fantastic new kitchen at The Centre @ Halton is already being put to very good use. After the successful ‘thank you’ for volunteers on Sunday April 7th a dozen people attended the first gathering of the new ‘Over 55s Luncheon Club’ on Friday April 12th.
A tutor from Lancashire Adult Learning (LAL) based at the Adult College, gave an interesting taster session on history and politics including an explanation of Parliamentary traditions and, very topically, Baroness Margaret Thatcher’s legacy. This all produced some lively debate!
Second helpings showed how much the group enjoyed Angela Kirkby’s cottage pie – a lovely meal for only £2.50. This inaugural meeting was well supported by volunteers whose contribution was much appreciated.
The next three Friday sessions for the Over 55s Luncheon Club are scheduled for 24th May and each will include a different topic of interest from LAL. See the events calendar for the latest dates. The intention is to grow the group and attract new people, who will definitely enjoy the food and discussions. Anyone interested should contact Maureen Richardson to sign up on

and everyone who attends can contribute to discussions about how the group should be run in future.
Maureen has said:
” We are delighted at the positive response to our first Over 55s Luncheon Club session, and we are sure it will go from strength to strength as we develop the rota of speakers and experiment with different menus. Volunteers are needed for this new and exciting venture – to help with cooking, setting up and clearing away, serving and transporting local people.
I look forward to hearing from anyone who is interested – it’s a very enjoyable way to spend a Friday lunchtime.”
