Luncheon Club for the over 55s features talk about North West Blood Bikes
There will be another Luncheon Club for the over 55s on Friday March 24th when the talk will be about North West Blood Bikes – Lancashire & Lakes (NWBBLL).
In the NWBBLL presentation there will be an explanation of how, and why, they were formed, how the group is structured, how they operate, and what they do to assist the NHS.
They provide a free, but professional voluntary out of hours transport service to the local NHS hospitals and care homes by carrying urgent and emergency blood, platelets, samples, donor breast milk, patient notes, theatre equipment, in fact anything that can be carried by motorcycle, between hospitals that is urgently required. The service is funded entirely by fund raising at events, donations, and applying for grants from organisations such as the National Lottery, and other charity supporting groups.
NWBBLL began in May 2012 and, at the beginning of January 2017, they had completed over 30,000 call outs. The callouts are increasing exponentially and are currently running at over 1,000 per month. They provide this service through the night, at weekends and Bank Holidays enabling hospital funding to be better spent on patient care.
NWBBLL achievements were recognised in 2016 when they received The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service (the MBE for volunteer groups).
As usual there will be a great hot meal for 4 and we recommend booking a place since the lunches are now very popular. Telephone Maureen on 01524 811316.
