Community orienteering event on Saturday
Soon to take place at The Centre is a free orienteering event for local residents on Saturday July 15th at 2pm. The local ‘Red Rose’ Orienteering Club has kindly produced a new map for this special event.
To take part, register at The Centre between 1.30 and 1.55 pm in order to be ready for the mass start at 2.00 pm. You will be given a map with 25 markers/sites printed on it and will have an hour to visit as many markers/sites as possible. Each one found and recorded earns 10 points, so a maximum of 250 points is possible. But anyone going over the hour will lose 10 points for every extra minute so keep an eye on the time.
Small prizes will be awarded to the adult and junior winners.
There is no minimum age for taking part but because the course takes participants around the village, and therefore involves crossing public roads, the event insurers insist that anyone under the age of 16 on July 15th must be accompanied by an adult. Of course, an adult can take responsibility for more than one child as long as they don’t get separated.
If you have any queries please contact Julian Lailey, the event planner/organiser, by email on kezi1@btinternet.com.
