A Successful Plant and Craft Sale
The main hall was in full bloom on 19th May for the Plant and Craft Sale organised by the Halton Gardening Group. It was almost like being at the Chelsea Flower Show. There was a wide range of plants on offer, including annuals and bedding, bulbs, perennials, herbs, salad, vegetables, shrubs and even some small trees. The group worked very hard growing a huge number of plants. There were reference books to look up unfamiliar plants and the group’s members were on hand to offer advice. Other sellers offered a great variety of goods including plants, handicraft items and more – loved the fudge! Volunteers donated cakes which went down well and volunteers at the Snack Bar made lots of bacon butties too. There was bunting in red, white and blue, someone even wore a union jack patterned dress, and the TV was on for the Royal Wedding. All in all it was a very good day.
At the end of the sale the raffle was drawn. There were a good range of prizes donated by local people and businesses, including A M Hair, Blacks Chippy, Halton Newsagent, Halton Village Butchers, HiQ Garage, Lancastle International, Out of the Woods and The Greyhound, thanks to everyone for their kind donations.
The money raised by the Halton Gardening Group will go towards planting around the village, replenishing the planters, plants at the memorial garden and burial ground, by the ginnel, and to site new planters to continue to beautify the village.
