Halton Fun Day review
What a wonderful day! The sun shone on Halton Fun Day for a grand day out! The event went really well. It was great to see so many people there. Lots of new residents were getting a taste of what Halton has to offer. There was something for everyone.
There were all kinds of craft and community stalls to see, plenty to eat and drink, and demonstrations from the Centre user groups that all went down well. From Samba Espirito drumming we heard rousing sounds with lively action, and also Zumba and Lune Valley Ocean Wavers square dancers.
The Coffee Shop was kept busy all day and the delicious cakes made by volunteers sold – like hot cakes! The Fun Dog Show was very popular. Several lucky dogs and their owners came away with rosettes and their own special doggy bags – well done to all who took part.
Children enjoyed the bouncy castles and roundabout ride and had their faces painted. Some lucky people won prizes with the programme draw. People had a go on the juice bike to make fruit smoothies. Other kinds of bike was also popular, the North West Blood Bikes where people of all ages climbed on board (they are so big!) and imagined what it’s like to be a Blood Bike Rider, complete with siren going for a moment or two.
The Skate park competition was also very popular and well attended. The young people did a fantastic job running the Skate Park competition. We are hoping to expand it next time to include a younger category. This year it was under 16’s and 16 and over, Skateboard Scooter and BMX. We are hoping to have more regular skate park jams and competitions and are looking for sponsorship and adult support to help make this happen.
Thanks to everyone who attended the Halton Fun Day, and to all the stall holders, and thanks to event organiser Ben Davies and Maureen Richardson, Centre Manager, who worked hard to make this event a success. Also thanks to all the volunteers who made cakes, ran the cake stall, put up and took down the marquees, helped in the Coffee Shop, and did lots of other tasks, including a certain young lady who was very enthusiastically helping to sell soft drinks!
